HF Kids: The Promise of Christmas

This Week's Video

What's the Point?

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2; Matt.2:11, Matt 28:18-20

Lesson Summary: There were many prophecies that foretold Jesus coming. Those prophecies led God’s people to have expectation. But they would have to wait hundreds of years before the prophecies were fulfilled, and then they weren’t entirely sure Jesus was really the Messiah!
We should be like the Wisemen – believe in what the Bible tells us about Jesus! Follow Him, no matter where you have to go! Worship Him! And give Him the best gift you have to give, your life.

God sent messages through the prophets for hundreds of years to assure His people that He had a rescue plan from the beginning.  It was God’s grand plan since sin entered the world, to save us because He loves us so much.

The point: God keeps His promises. Jesus is the Messiah who was promised!

Verse of the month: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Parent Connect:

Finally, we are in the official countdown to Christmas!

Historically this season is crazy busy around our house with dance recitals, Christmas Programs, music performances, parties, friends and family visiting, shopping, and so much more.

One of our favorite things to do in anticipation of Christmas is our Advent Calendar. Typically, it is a new surprise every day along the lines of an activity, event, or outing, but with Covid restrictions in place for so many venues, we will have to re-think some of our favorite traditions.
I must admit, I was feeling pretty disappointed about this, but I have come to realize that there is actually a real benefit to the forced slowing down. We will space to spend more time with family engaging in at-home activities, and we will discover more paths that lead to serving others. Our family always loves helping wherever we can, but to be honest, when things are overscheduled, serving can become just another item on a long list. As upside-down as things seem this year, this is a great opportunity to rethink the way we approach Advent. Maybe we will even find that these changes help us to feel more connected to Christ at Christmas and they will become a regular part of our preparation.

I am looking forward to finding ways to serve those who are isolated and lonely this year. I am anticipating a deeper revelation of Jesus coming as we spend time reading the scriptures together in preparation for Christ’s coming. I am waiting with a greater peace in the absence of the flurry of activity.

I am praying that we all resist the disappointment that could creep in if this season doesn’t look exactly like we had hoped. Certainly there were those who thought the arrival of the Messiah would look very different! This year let’s have the faith of the wisemen who believed when they heard about Jesus, followed Him no matter how far, worshiped Him, and gave Him their best gifts. What a great way to prepare our hearts for Christmas!
